Guided Reading is small group reading instruction designed to provide differentiated teaching that supports students in developing reading proficiency.  The small group model allows students to be taught in a way that is intended to be more focused on their specific needs, accelerating their progress.  Please watch this video to get an overview of Guided Reading, its purpose, and how it works in the classroom.  Guided Reading is something that all of our kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade students engage in weekly with their teachers.


Accuracy refers to reading without mistakes.  This video contains some tips and tricks that you can use when reading with your child in order to improve their accuracy.  Having your child read for a minimum of 20 minutes per day outside of the classroom will also help to improve accuracy.

This video shows how accuracy is applied while reading a story. There are examples in this video of how to help your child sound out words while they are reading. It is important to have your child read aloud to you in order to help them improve their accuracy. 



Fluency is the link between recognizing words and understanding them.  Effective readers can make the link between words, sounds, and meaning more quickly.   This video details how you can help to improve your child's fluency when reading together with them.

This video will delve more deeply into the topic of fluency and provides more helpful hints on how to help your student read with speed, accuracy, and proper expression.  There are examples in this video to help your student increase their fluency to understand what they have read.  You can use the examples provided to help your student improve their fluency at home.


Comprehension is the ability to process text, understand its meaning, and to integrate what the reader already knows.  This video will provide tools to assist your child with understanding and interpretation of what is read.


The purpose of reading is getting meaning from written text, better known as comprehension.  A major goal of reading comprehension instruction is to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and experiences they must have if they are to become competent and enthusiastic readers.  This video will provide some tips to help your student achieve their comprehension goals.  Reading with your student daily will allow them to achieve these goals and open up a whole new world in reading.
